Two EV charging companies, Voltpost and InCharge Energy, announced a partnership this month to speed up installation of Voltpost's signature product, a charger that clips onto an existing streetlight pole instead of requiring a brand new pedestal, trench, and panel. The pitch is simple: retrofitting a pole that already has power running to it is faster and cheaper than pouring new concrete and running new conduit from scratch.

In Connecticut, the plan calls for 50 of these retrofitted poles delivering 100 total charging ports, each pole hosting two connectors and a retractable cable so cords do not sit on the sidewalk. The project was chosen through the state's utility regulator and will land inside both Eversource and United Illuminating service areas, with a full buildout targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026 under an 18 month pilot.

For most homeowners this will not change anything about their own wiring. But it is a useful signal of where public charging money is headed, and it is worth understanding before you decide how much to invest in your own driveway.
