Generac Generator Installation

Guardian 22kW & 24kW · Mobile Link Monitoring · 5-Year Warranty + 10-Year Install

What's Specific About Generac Installs in Eastern CT

Generac product lineup at a glance

Generac's residential lineup splits into three tiers: (1) Guardian Series — the main residential standby line, 10kW through 26kW, air-cooled engines, the most common Eastern CT install (typical 22-24kW for whole-house). (2) PowerPact — entry-level 7.5kW, suitable for partial-load setups. (3) Protector Series — liquid-cooled, 22kW through 80kW, for larger homes or commercial. Most Eastern CT residential whole-house installs are Guardian 22 or 24kW.

Mobile Link cellular monitoring

Generac includes Mobile Link cellular monitoring standard on most current Guardian models — the unit phones home weekly with status, runs auto-exercise reports, and alerts you on your phone when the generator starts during an outage or needs maintenance. No additional subscription needed for basic monitoring. We register your unit during commissioning so the monitoring is active from day one.

Authorized installer status — what it actually means

TJF Electric is a Generac authorized installer. That means manufacturer training on commissioning and service procedures, factory parts pipeline (we get warranty parts faster), warranty registration handled correctly the first time, and direct support escalation if a complex warranty issue comes up. Authorized is the standard tier; Generac also offers an "Elite" tier with higher revenue thresholds. Several Hartford-area shops are Generac Elite, but Authorized status means the same install quality and same warranty protection.

Storm season equipment availability

In active storm seasons (typically late August through November in CT), Generac equipment lead times stretch from the normal 2-3 weeks up to 8-12 weeks. We monitor inventory and can sometimes pull units from our regular allocation faster than a new homeowner ordering during peak season. Calling for a quote in the spring or early summer is significantly faster than calling the week after a storm.

Generac Installation FAQ

Why pick Generac over Kohler?+

Both brands make excellent whole-house generators. Generac is the U.S. market leader by volume — larger nationwide service network, slightly lower price point on equivalent kW ratings, and Mobile Link cellular monitoring as a standard feature. Kohler is slightly quieter at full load and has marginally higher build-quality reputation. We install both monthly and don't have a strong preference; pick based on price/feature mix.

What size Generac do I need?+

Most Eastern CT whole-house Generac installs are 22kW (Guardian 7043) or 24kW (Guardian 7210). The 22 handles most homes with one HVAC compressor + electric water heater or well pump. The 24 adds margin for a second HVAC zone, EV charging during the outage, or a larger well pump with longer cable run inrush. We do a load calc as part of the free walk-through quote.

How much does a Generac whole-house install cost in Eastern CT?+

Most Eastern CT Generac installs run $12,000-$17,000 fully installed for a 22-24kW Guardian. The variation depends on gas line length, panel upgrade requirements, generator pad placement, and propane tank work for off-gas-grid homes. We quote the all-in installed price up front.

How long does the Generac install take?+

On-site install is typically 1-2 days. Lead time is the bigger factor — Guardian units have 2-3 weeks lead time during normal periods, 6-12 weeks during peak storm season. Total contract-to-operational is usually 4-6 weeks in normal conditions.

What is Generac's warranty?+

5-year limited warranty on most Guardian models (engine, alternator, controller); some Protector models have 10-year engine warranties. The warranty starts on the install commissioning date. TJF backs the installation with our 10-year written workmanship guarantee, so labor is covered for 10 years even after the factory warranty expires.

Do I get Mobile Link with my install?+

Yes — Mobile Link cellular monitoring is included free on most current Guardian models. We activate it during commissioning, register the unit to your phone number, and you can monitor status from the Generac app. Cellular service costs nothing extra (Generac covers it).

Does Generac require special maintenance?+

Annual maintenance: oil change, air filter, spark plugs, battery check, transfer switch test, exercise cycle review. We offer maintenance contracts for $300-$450 per year depending on travel and access. Self-maintenance is possible for handy owners but voids some of the warranty coverage if a problem arises later.
