What's Specific About Tesla Wall Connector Installs in Eastern CT
Wall Connector vs NEMA 14-50 — what you actually want
Two common Tesla home-charging paths: (1) Tesla Wall Connector, a hardwired Level 2 charger permanently wired to a 60A circuit, charging at 48A continuous (~11.5 kW, ~44 miles of range per hour). (2) NEMA 14-50 outlet, a 50A 240V plug-in outlet your Tesla's mobile connector plugs into, charging at 32A (~7.7 kW, ~30 miles of range per hour). The Wall Connector is faster, more reliable, and supports multi-charger load sharing — what most homeowners want for daily charging. The NEMA 14-50 is fine for occasional use and is portable if you move.
Multi-charger load sharing
A unique Tesla Wall Connector feature: up to four Wall Connectors on one home circuit, automatically sharing the available amperage. Two Wall Connectors on a 60A circuit charge both cars at 24A each when both are plugged in, or one car at the full 48A when only one is plugged in. Eliminates the need to size your service for the worst-case combined load. We wire and commission multi-Wall-Connector setups regularly for two-EV households.
Gen 3 vs Universal Wall Connector
Tesla currently sells two residential Wall Connectors: (1) Gen 3 — the established Tesla-proprietary connector model, NACS plug, 48A, $475 retail. (2) Universal Wall Connector — released 2024, dual-plug with both NACS and J1772, $595 retail. The Universal lets you charge any modern EV (Tesla + non-Tesla) at the same charger. For households with mixed-brand EVs or future flexibility, the Universal is the better pick despite the price premium.
Eversource rebate eligibility
Eversource Connecticut offers a rebate up to $1,000 for residential Level 2 EV charger installation, with a higher tier for managed-charging programs (the Wall Connector qualifies). We pre-fill the rebate paperwork during install — you sign, we submit, the rebate typically arrives 6-10 weeks after install. Most homeowners net out around $400-$1,400 cost after rebate depending on Wall Connector model and install complexity.

Tesla Wall Connector FAQ
How much does Tesla Wall Connector installation cost in Eastern CT?+
Most Eastern CT Wall Connector installs run $800-$1,800 fully installed (before Eversource rebate), depending on the distance from the panel to the install location, conduit needs, whether the panel has room for the new 60A breaker, and whether the install is a Gen 3 or Universal. Detached garage runs add cost. After Eversource rebate (up to $1,000), net cost is typically $0-$1,400.
Do I need a panel upgrade for a Wall Connector?+
Sometimes. The Wall Connector wants a 60A double-pole breaker. If your existing 200A panel has room and your overall service load can handle the additional 60A continuous draw, no upgrade needed. If your panel is 100A or fully populated, an upgrade or sub-panel is required. The load calc during the walk-through tells us which path is right.
Can I install the Wall Connector myself?+
Not legally — CT code requires a licensed electrical contractor for any new 60A circuit install, and the Eversource rebate requires installer documentation. Tesla's warranty also requires professional installation. Beyond the legal requirement: the load calc, conduit routing, breaker selection, and grounding all need to be done correctly for safe long-term operation.
How long does the install take?+
Typical single-Wall-Connector install is 2-4 hours on-site. Multi-Wall-Connector setups or detached-garage runs take 4-8 hours. Permit application takes 1-3 business days through most Eastern CT town halls; inspection happens after the install. Total contract-to-operational: typically 5-10 business days.
My house is on the Tolland Co side of Eastern CT — do you cover me?+
Yes. We install Wall Connectors weekly across Willington, Mansfield, Storrs, Tolland, Vernon, Coventry, Manchester, South Windsor, and Glastonbury, plus the surrounding rural towns. The proximity to Tyler's Pinney Hill HQ varies by town (10-45 minutes); call for your specific timing.
What about charging an F-150 Lightning or Rivian — same install?+
Yes. The Tesla Universal Wall Connector has both a NACS plug (Teslas) and a J1772 plug (everyone else) on a single unit, switching between them as needed. Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, Hyundai Ioniq, etc. all use J1772 and work with the Universal. For non-Tesla households, the Universal is what you want. For Tesla-only households, Gen 3 is fine and cheaper.
Will my Tesla service plan or Tesla insurance cover any of the install?+
No — Tesla doesn't bundle home-charging installation with the vehicle or insurance. The charger purchase is from Tesla directly; installation is contracted separately with a licensed electrician (us). The Eversource rebate is the main install-related cost offset.
